Getting ready for Xmas in Germany :-)

Hi to all of you out there,

the little piggy and the big hug-heart have arrived safe and sound in Hamburg, Germany :-)

They are having a good time and have so far seen quite a bit of life in and outside of school. Today we baked lots of cookies and tomorrow all the classes will have a Xmas breakfast and celebrate Xmas before the vacation starts tomorrow. Everybody is excited and the two mascots from Spain are being passed around and love the buzz!
The piglet went on a tour around Bergedorf (the part of Hamburg we live and go to school in!) with Antonia from class 6c and some friends. He had a blast shopping and looking at many things in Bergedorf. So here are some photos to start with! There are many more to come.

Lots of love from Hamburg,

Meet Chichiton!

Hi friends,

I'm Chichiton, I'm from Mexico.

Chichiton means "puppy" or "lapdog" in Nahuatl, the ancient language of the Aztecs.
I'm a Chihuahua dog. Chihuahuas are named after the Mexican State that borders Texas, Arizona and New Mexico.

It's believed that the bread came from the Techichi, a small canine that dates back to Mayan times.

Xico and I hope to have lots of adventures with all of you!

Meet Xico!

Hi friends,

I'm Xico, Mexico's mascot.

Mexico is rich in legends, rites and traditions; and the Xoloitzcuintle plays a huge part in them.

The name Xico alludes to the word México, and it's inspired by the Xoloitzcuintle dog from Aztec mythology, which guided his master's soul past obstacles to reach it's final destination.

Xico, son of the dreams of Earth and heaven, is born like a shooting star, which sets the heart alight.
Xico means "Fire Heart".

The Xoloitzcuintle, or Mexican hairless dog, is a very rare breed of dog that is currently considered a national treasure in Mexico.

These are unique dogs with a unique name. Even Mexican people have trouble pronouncing the name of this dog. The way to pronounce their name is "show-low-its-queen-tle" (Try it!), but it's easier just call them "Xolo", which is pronounced "show-low".

Xolos are native to Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America. Archeological evidence shows that the breed has been existing in the New World for more than 3500 years.

Xoloitzcuintles were considered sacred dogs by the Aztecs because they had the belief that dogs were needed by their masters's souls to help them safely go through the underworld.

According to Aztec mythology, the God Xólotl made the Xoloitzcuintle from a sliver of the Bone of Life, from which all humans were made. Xólotl gave this gift to man with the instruction to guard it with his life and in exchange it would guide man through the dangers of Mictlan, the world of Death, towards the Evening Star in Heavens.

Paris, je t´aime

These are our two mascots this year.

A piggie called Jorge (just because my daughter fell in love with him and gave her that name, it is not really a typical piggie name) and a heart that we sent together with a huge hug!!!

Here they are in the main square in Valladolid at night (Plaza Mayor).  The statue of the founder of the city (Valladolid) , Pedro Ansúrez (XI century)is in the middle of the Plaza. It is a focal point in the city where most of the people meet...And after a nocturnal tour around this wonderful city, our mascots packed and left for Germany!See you soon!!!!

Hamburg calling!

Hi everyone!

We are very happy to be part of this project! We can't wait to receive the first mascot and do cool things with it! :-)

We are the classes 6c and 6d, and we are sending our two mascots: Miss Crabs and glow-in-the-dark-lion Gandalf! Since we learned on our class trip to an island in the North Sea how to tell if a crab is male or female, we can certainly say that Miss Crabs is a female crab. Plus, she hasn't told us yet if she is married, so it has to be Miss Crabs! Gandalf has had an operation before he was allowed in the parcel: Miss Böhl operated on him, and took out some of his heavy filling, before she sewed him back together - light as a feather!

Talk soon!!!
